Journey with us to the slow-paced world of the Mekong Delta, where the skyscrapers of nearby Saigon are replaced with towering palms, and beautiful meandering canals just begging to be explored. This unique tour takes in a route less traveled as we speak with and learn from the region’s locals, visiting their homes, their places of worship, and the workshops where they make their living. At Drive Vietnam, we truly believe that it is the people that make a place. This is why our full-day tour of the Mekong Delta is designed to take a different direction to the typical tourist-route, favoring cultural insights and in-depth perspectives into the Mekong residents’ rural lives.

We’ll rise with the sun to make the most of our day, setting off for our Mekong adventure at around 7:30am. Our journey will take us through the hustle and bustle of hectic Saigon, over the Ong Thin Bridge into the peaceful Mekong Delta where we’ll see the ancient tradition of incense-making in action. Watch and learn as the masters of their craft work the machines, turning the raw materials into colorful bundles of scented sticks. Two scenic ferry rides across the water will find us in Tien Giang, exploring an extraordinary, ornate temple of the fascinating Cao Dai religion. Our journey among these spiritual scenes is interrupted only by detours to noodle and broom-making workshops, where we’ll watch and even try our hand at the intricate skill of crafting brooms out of coconut leaves.

Our trail will take us too to a small restaurant belonging to a Mekong resident, eating home-prepared dishes of delicious Vietnamese food, we will sit and learn about how the country’s culture is expressed through the preparation of these meals. Hear too about your host as your guide translates the many and varied tales of life in this beautiful area. Loaded with stories, we’ll travel to My Tho City where we’ll embark upon a peaceful boat-ride through the canals and passageways of the Sông Cái (Great River), where we’ll take in the views of life on these waterways. The tour comes to an end at 4:00pm, when we’ll make our way back on a different route to which we came, arriving back at your hotel at around 5:30pm.

Join us on this uniquely people-focused journey so that we can pass on our passion for this region and its people, and show you the reasons this agricultural heart of Southern Vietnam is so well loved by the rest of the country. This tour is designed to be flexible, so that you, our valued customer, can fully delve into this beautiful region. If we pass a scene of particular interest – whether that be a shrimp farm, or a buffalo-led farmer ploughing the fields – we’ll stop to take stock, and interact with the locals. Choose your pace on this fully customizable tour to create your ideal journey through the old-world landscapes of the stunning Mekong Delta.
